Water for Fodder – Agreement with South Australia

The Australian Government has committed to pay the South Australian Government to produce up to 100 gigalitres of water from the Adelaide Desalination Plant. This will allow an equivalent amount of water to be released upstream from the River Murray.

Round 1 of the program delivered 40 gigalitres of water to farmers in the Southern-connected Basin.

Round 2 will not proceed. Funding for the remaining 60 gigalitres of water to be produced from the Adelaide Desalination Plant will be redirected to other programs that benefit farmers and communities in the Murray–Darling Basin.

Project agreement

This sets out the agreement between the Australian Government and South Australian Government for the Water for Fodder program.

The agreement can also be found on the website of the Council on Federal Financial Relations.

Progress reports

Progress reports have been developed to meet milestone requirements under the Project Agreement in place with the South Australian Government.

Published reports may not meet Australian Government accessibility requirements as they have not been prepared by the department.

Information may be redacted in the reports where it may be exempt under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. The department has worked with relevant South Australian agencies to minimise the number of redactions.
