About the Vision and the Best Practice Standards
On 16 September 2020, the Heritage Chairs of Australia and New Zealand welcomed and supported Dhawura Ngilan: A vision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage in Australia and the Best Practice Standards in Indigenous cultural heritage management and legislation. Developed by and presented to the meeting by the Chairs of Australia’s national, state and territory Indigenous heritage bodies, these two documents provide a roadmap for improving approaches to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage management in Australia. Both documents are the product of extensive consultation with Indigenous stakeholders and relevant peak advisory bodies.
The Vision and the Standards were subsequently discussed at the Ministerial Indigenous Heritage Roundtable on 21 September 2020.
