Clarification on media reports about funding for abattoir workers in Vietnam

21 April 2018

A number of media outlets have incorrectly reported an Australian Government investment of $146 million in Vietnamese abattoir workers through the Managing Abattoirs, Training and Exchange of Skills (MATES) program.

The funding for the Vietnam abattoir workers component of the MATES program is less than half a million dollars a year, for two years.

The total funding for the MATES program is approximately $950,000 over two years, from 2018-2019.

The MATES program is one component of the Aus4Skills program, administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The total amount of funding for the Aus4Skills program is $146 million over 5 years.
