Product Emissions Standards Certification

From 1 July 2020, Euro Stage II certified products can no longer be imported into Australia under the transitional arrangements that commenced on 1 July 2018. For further information, refer to product emissions standards frequently asked questions.

What are the recognised foreign standards?

Section 26 of the Product Emissions Standards Rules 2017 details foreign standards that are accepted for outdoor power equipment and marine engines covered by the Rules. Products that are certified to one of the foreign standards will automatically meet the Australian standard. The foreign authorities listed in Section 26 of the Rules are the United States Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board, member states of the European Union, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Further information and guidance on what a foreign certification number looks like is available for download.

How to obtain an Australian certification?

If a product is not certified under one of the recognised foreign standards it is possible to apply for an Australian certification. Applicants will need to provide full engine emissions testing results and pay an application fee.
