This document collates information on koalas and their habitat that is relevant for determining whether an area is likely to be koala habitat, reviews the benefits and limitations of current methods for assessing koala presence and abundance, and critically assesses the extent that commonly used criteria for evaluating koala habitat are backed by peer-reviewed research.
