About the recovery plan
The White-bellied and Orange-bellied Frogs (Geocrinia alba and Geocrinia vitellina) Recovery Plan prepared by the Western Australian Department of Parks and Wildlife, provides for the research and management actions necessary to stop the decline of, and support the recovery of Geocrinia alba (white-bellied frog) and Geocrinia vitellina (orange-bellied frog) in order to maximise their chances of long-term survival in nature. The two frog species are endemic to Western Australia and the recovery plan covers the full range for both of these species.
The plan replaces the previous plan adopted for these species: Wardell-Johnson G, Roberts JD, Driscoll D and Williams K (1995). Orange-bellied and White-bellied Frogs Recovery Plan – 1992-2001 Wildlife Management Program No. 19.
The plan provides background information on Geocrinia alba (white-bellied frog) and Geocrinia vitellina (orange-bellied frog), threatening processes affecting them, and integrated actions for the recovery of these species. Through an adaptive management approach, new information and the evaluation of previous actions will be used to inform and improve the recovery program.
The objectives of this recovery plan are to:
- Protect and effectively manage populations and the habitat critical for their survival.
- Increase species viability through population augmentation and establishment.
- Achieve an evidence-based management approach.
- Increase community awareness and understanding.
