About the application
The Department of the Environment and Energy has received an application for a permit to kill, injure, take, trade, keep or move a listed threatened species in a Commonwealth Area under Part 13, section 200 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The application is to undertake investigation works necessary for the Melbourne 3rd Runway project at Melbourne Airport. The investigation works will involve permanent impacts to the critically endangered Natural Temperate Grassland of the Victorian Volcanic Plain (NTGVVP) and Grey Box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) Grassy Woodlands and Derived Native Grasslands of south-eastern Australia (Grey Box Woodland). NTGVVP and Grey Box Woodland are listed threatened ecological communities under the EPBC Act.The investigation works will also involve permanent impacts to the vulnerable Growling Grass Frog (Litoria raniformis) and known habitat.

If the application for a permit to conduct the activity is approved the permit may be valid for a period of up to five years.
