About the application
The Department of the Environment and Energy has received an application for a permit to kill, injure, take, trade, keep or move a listed threatened species and two listed migratory species in a Commonwealth Area under Part 13, sections 200 and 215 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The application is to tag and take biological samples from whale sharks and manta rays, Coral Sea, offshore Queensland in Commonwealth waters. The whale shark (Rhincodon typus) is a listed threatened species under the EPBC Act. Both the manta ray (reef) (Manta alfredi) and manta ray (giant) (Manta birostris) are listed migratory species under the EPBC Act.

If the application for a permit to conduct the activity is approved the permit will be valid for a period of up to five years.
In accordance with the provisions of sections 200(3) and 215(3) of the EPBC Act, you are invited to comment on this proposal.
