Information for livestock exporters and industry participants

The Export Control (Animals) Rules 2021 states that a livestock exporter must hold a livestock export licence. The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is responsible for issuing a livestock export licence if an application for a licence meets criteria for issue that are set out in the Export Control Act 2020 and the Export Control (Animals) Rules 2021.

From 1 January 2017 all livestock exporters who regularly export livestock are also required to have an approved arrangement.

Live Animal Export Advisory Notices (EANs) are created by the department to give advice, guidance or instructions to exporters of livestock and livestock reproductive material. They also guide you in how to comply with importing country requirements, Australian legislative requirements or Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment administrative requirements.

All EANs are available on the Live Animal Export Advisory Notices webpage.
