Progress in delivering Ag2030
The fourth edition of the Australian Governments Delivering Ag2030 was published in April 2022 and includes Ag2030 measures announced in the 2022-23 Federal Budget.

Australia’s primary industries are expected to be worth almost $87 billion in 2021-22 (comprised of $81.0 billion in farm gate value and $5.8 billion from the fishery and forestry sectors).
Industry's 2030 goal is very ambitious and a business as usual approach will not be enough.
Achieving the Ag2030 goal will require:
- the current increased growth rate in gross value to continue
- increased export market access and diversification
- the maintenance of Australia’s reputation for high quality and sustainable produce.
The $100 billion goal is only possible if government and industry continue to work in partnership.
Through Ag2030, the Australian Government is setting the foundations for the agriculture sector to continue to grow and build resilience to meet global challenges.
Government initiatives across the 7 themes of the Delivering Ag2030 plan provides funding and investment to:
- expand trade opportunities
- strengthen our biosecurity systems
- reward farmers for the stewardship of their land
- ensure that we have fair, strong and resilient supply chains
- improve the competitiveness and innovative capacity of the industry
- deliver the infrastructure our farmers and rural businesses need
- invest in our people.
The Delivering Ag2030 plan will be updated annually to reflect new initiatives as well as progress and achievements since the 2019-20 budget. Read the current and previous plans.
The government is supporting the farm sector to achieve this vision. The Federal Budget 2022-23 builds on the actions taken in previous budgets.

What we’re doing
The Delivering Ag2030 plan sets 7 themes for action.
Theme 1: Trade and exports
The government is strengthening agricultural ties with major and emerging export markets, and we are making it easier to do business. This will deliver new trade and market access for producers, while also reducing red tape.
Theme 2: Biosecurity
The government is safeguarding Australia from exotic pests and diseases and maintaining Australia’s clean and green reputation, through the implementation of a range of measures to strengthen the biosecurity system. Good biosecurity is vital to protecting our agriculture, environment, health and regional communities and jobs, critical to our market access and to lower costs for our producers. The Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030 strategic roadmap sets out our forward agenda, including efforts toward a national biosecurity strategy and progress towards sustainable funding investment.
Theme 3: Stewardship
The government is ensuring Australian farmers are rewarded for their stewardship of land and water.
Theme 4: Supply chains
The government is backing fair, strong and resilient supply chains and putting in place the frameworks, so everyone is treated fairly and pays their share.
Theme 5: Water and infrastructure
The government is supporting Australian farmers and rural and regional communities with infrastructure when and where it is needed.
Theme 6: Innovation and research
The government is providing the right conditions to modernise Australia’s agricultural innovation system, which will drive improvements in collaboration, commercialisation and uptake to grow agricultural productivity and competitiveness.
Theme 7: Human capital
The government is making sure people and their communities, right across the agriculture industry and supply chain, have the support, infrastructure, and skills to do their jobs.
Future Steps
The Australian Government is setting the right foundations across the 7 Ag2030 themes to give industry what it needs for success in the future, and to have the best environment possible to reach the industry’s Ag2030 goal.
The focus going forward will remain on delivering on commitments so that agriculture remains a profitable, productive and innovative industry that drives growth and job creation in rural and regional Australia.
