First meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Cooperation with Korea

  • Media release
  • Trade
14 April 2021

Yesterday the department hosted the first meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Cooperation (COAC) with Korea.

Head of Trade, Market Access and International Division at the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment, Chris Tinning, co-chaired the virtual meeting with Director-General Sang-man Lee of Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

“Korea is an important and stable trading partner. It is Australia’s fourth largest market for agriculture, fisheries and forestry products with exports valued at $2.9 billion in 2020.  There is opportunity for further growth for Australian exports to this market with Korea’s imports increasing,” Mr Tinning said.

“We had a very successful first COAC that was established under the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement. It is an important bilateral setting to build a strong relationship with Korea and create opportunities that support beneficial outcomes for both countries.

“Australian exporters will benefit from a mature relationship with Korea. With its demand for Australian products, Korea presents opportunities to grow our exports and at the same time, our people to people ties.”
